People with disabilities are trying to be independent in their everyday life. Still, they often rely on others because our environments are not well designed for such a condition, making them feel vulnerable in most public spaces.

How might we design public doors and entrances smarter and safer for people with disabilities so that they can access public spaces without help from others and worry about getting trapped?

Thinking + Innovating + Making = Design by Action

Purdue University has always been committed to bringing innovative and collaborative thinking into the campus environment. So, this time, Purdue’s Integrated Business & Engineering (IBE) and Industrial Design (ID) programs decided to launch this IBE + ID Innovation Hackathon to give students more opportunities to collaborate and foster new perspectives of thinking. Starting with this Hackathon, our goal is to create an annual event that spreads a culture of innovation on the Purdue campus.

The platform aims to bring together, Universities, communities, and industries from around the world to take on some real world challenges. The platform emphasized on design by Action, pursuing design projects across different disciplines, expertise, and great distances by using the latest technology for collaborative works, demonstrating more effective and efficient design process.
