 Problem Statement
Energy is an essential resource that communities rely on to function, especially in times of crisis. Disasters, such as hurricanes, often disrupt access to energy, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure is damaged, and power sources are cut off. Without immediate access to electricity, affected communities struggle to rebuild homes, restore services, and recover a sense of normalcy. There is a critical need for a reliable, fast-deploying power solution that can quickly provide energy to disaster-stricken regions, enabling recovery efforts to begin swiftly.

How might we Statement
How might we design a trailer-mounted Genset that can be rapidly deployed in disaster zones, ensuring quick access to reliable power, while considering ease of transport, rapid setup, safety, and resilience in harsh conditions?

Thinking + Innovating + Making = Design by Action
Purdue University has always been committed to bringing innovative and collaborative thinking into the campus environment. So, this time, Purdue’s Integrated Business & Engineering (IBE) and Industrial Design (ID) programs decided to launch this IBE + ID Innovation Hackathon to give students more opportunities to collaborate and foster new perspectives of thinking. Starting with this Hackathon, our goal is to create an annual event that spreads a culture of innovation on the Purdue campus.
The platform aims to bring together, Universities, communities, and industries from around the world to take on some real world challenges. The platform emphasized on design by Action, pursuing design projects across different disciplines, expertise, and great distances by using the latest technology for collaborative works, demonstrating more effective and efficient design process.
